The Ritual

Three minutes between meetings

By mid afternoon the laptop has won. Eyes dry, temples tight, shoulders climbing toward your ears. This is a desk-side ritual you can do in the time it takes a kettle to boil, no app, no playlist, no leaving your chair.

The 3pm signal

Most people hit a wall between two and four in the afternoon. The eyes have been focused at the same distance for hours, the jaw is set, the breath has gone shallow without anyone noticing. The fix is not more caffeine, it is a sensory reset, short and deliberate.

Cooling first, breath second

Peppermint and eucalyptus give an almost instant cooling sensation across the temples and hairline. The breath that follows is what actually moves you out of the slump. The two together work better than either alone.

Make it a meeting

Put it in the calendar. A repeating fifteen minute block at 3pm called The Pause. Treat it like any other meeting. The ritual is small, the protection of the time is the whole point.

The Steps

The desk reset

  1. 01Stand up. Walk to a window if you have one. Look at the furthest thing you can see for thirty seconds.
  2. 02Warm a pea-sized amount of balm between your fingertips.
  3. 03Apply in slow circles to the temples and along the hairline.
  4. 04Roll the shoulders back three times.
  5. 05Three slow breaths, hands cupped near your face. Sit back down.

"I keep it in my desk drawer. It's become the thing I reach for at 3pm instead of another coffee. The botanical scent resets me."
